When you convert a document in Pirai AI and select Google Forms as the output, you see two buttons on the Conversion Complete screen: Export to Google Forms and Download File. This guide covers exactly what happens when you click Export to Google Forms - every screen, every click, and what permissions are granted and why.

What You See on the Conversion Complete Screen

After Pirai AI converts your document, the Conversion Complete screen shows three stats - questions extracted, answer options, and estimated time saved - followed by two buttons:

This guide covers the Export to Google Forms path. For the Apps Script path, see the Import Guide.

The Five Steps - Exactly What Happens

1
Click Export to Google Forms On the Conversion Complete screen, click the Export to Google Forms button - the black button with the Google icon. Pirai AI initiates the Google OAuth flow.
2
Choose your Google account A Google sign-in page opens: "Choose an account to continue to Pirai AI." Select the Google account where you want the form created. If you only have one Google account signed in, it may be selected automatically. If you are not signed in to any Google account, you will be asked to sign in first before seeing the account chooser.
3
Review permissions and click Continue Google shows a permissions screen: "Pirai AI wants access to your Google Account." Review the two permissions listed and click Continue. If you have authorised Pirai AI before, you may see a shorter screen: "Pirai AI already has some access - See the 2 services that Pirai AI has some access to." This is normal. Click Continue to proceed with the same scoped permissions as before.
4
The Google Form Created modal appears Pirai AI creates the form in your Google Drive using the Google Forms API. A confirmation modal appears: "Google Form Created - Your survey has been exported to Google Forms and is ready to edit and share." The form name and a docs.google.com/forms link are shown.
5
Click Open Google Form Click Open Google Form. Your Google Form opens in the Forms editor with all questions, answer options, and question types created automatically. Review, configure any display logic or settings, and share.

About the Permissions - What Pirai AI Can and Cannot Access

The permissions screen is the most important moment in the flow. Here is exactly what Pirai AI requests and why.

Permissions Pirai AI requests

drive.file

Creates new files in your Drive only. Pirai AI can create a new Google Form in your Drive. It cannot read, view, download, edit, or delete any existing file, folder, or document. This scope is required by Google's Drive API to create a file on your behalf.

forms.body

Adds questions to the form it creates. This scope is required by the Google Forms API to populate the form with your questions and answer options after creation. Without it, Pirai AI could create an empty form but not add any content.

These are the minimum two permissions required to create a populated Google Form on your behalf. Pirai AI does not request any other Google account permissions.

To revoke access at any time: go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, find Pirai AI, and click Remove Access. You can re-authorise by clicking Export to Google Forms again.

First-Time vs Returning Users

First-time users see the full permissions screen listing drive.file and forms.body scope descriptions. Read them, then click Continue.

Returning users (anyone who has previously authorised Pirai AI for Google Forms) see a shorter screen: "Pirai AI already has some access - See the 2 services that Pirai AI has some access to." This confirms the same two scopes are already active. Click Continue to proceed - no new permissions are being added.

If you want to start fresh or switch Google accounts, revoke access first from your Google Account settings, then click Export to Google Forms again.

One-Click Export vs Apps Script - Which Should You Use?

Apps Script download

Download File

  • + Zero Drive permissions to Pirai AI
  • + Script runs in your own Google account
  • + No Pirai AI Google sign-in required
  • i Download, paste, save, run required
  • i One-time Google permission for the script

Both methods produce an identical Google Form. The choice is about workflow preference and permission comfort. For most users the one-click export is the faster, simpler option. For users in organisations with strict third-party Drive access policies, the Apps Script method provides the same result with no Pirai AI Drive permissions involved.

Supported Input Formats for One-Click Export

Every document format Pirai AI accepts can be exported to Google Forms in one click:

For scanned paper surveys, enable Advanced Processing before clicking Export to Google Forms. OCR extraction runs first, then the form is created in your Drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Export to Google Forms do in Pirai AI?

It creates a native Google Form directly in your Google Drive using Google OAuth. After clicking the button, you sign in with Google, grant scoped permission, and Pirai AI creates the form on your behalf via the Google Forms API. A "Google Form Created" modal confirms the export and an "Open Google Form" button takes you directly to the form in your Drive.

What permissions does Pirai AI request?

Two scoped permissions. drive.file: allows Pirai AI to create new files in your Drive only - it cannot read, edit, or access any existing files, folders, or documents. forms.body: allows Pirai AI to add questions to the form it creates via the Google Forms API. These are the minimum permissions required by Google to create a populated form on your behalf.

Why does the permission screen look different from last time?

If you have previously authorised Pirai AI, Google shows a shorter screen: "Pirai AI already has some access - See the 2 services that Pirai AI has some access to." This is normal. The same two scopes are active. Click Continue to proceed. First-time users see the full permissions screen listing the specific scopes.

Does Pirai AI access my existing Google Drive files?

No. The drive.file scope gives Pirai AI access only to files it creates on your behalf. It cannot read, view, download, or modify any existing files, folders, or documents in your Google Drive. The permission is scoped exclusively to new files that Pirai AI creates during the export.

How do I revoke Pirai AI's Google Drive access?

Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions. Find Pirai AI in the list of connected apps. Click it and select Remove Access. This immediately revokes both permissions. You can re-authorise at any time by clicking Export to Google Forms again.

What is the difference between one-click export and the Apps Script method?

One-click export uses Google OAuth to create the form directly in your Drive - no file to download, no code to paste or run. The Apps Script method generates a .txt file you paste into the Google Forms Script Editor and run yourself - Pirai AI receives no Drive permissions at all. Both produce an identical Google Form.

What formats can I upload for one-click Google Forms export?

Word (.docx), PDF (native and scanned), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, plain text, Qualtrics QSF, XML, and JSON. Scanned paper surveys require Advanced Processing enabled for OCR extraction before export.
